Euro 2020 (+1) - News Engineer - 12-06-2021

I would suspect they would have if they’d expected anything like what has been described would be shown. That they didn’t sooner is surprising, but the main fault has to be with the host broadcaster.

A UK based host broadcaster would likely have stuck to crowd or very wide stadium shots. Just as ESPN did when Fabrice Muamba collapsed.

I’d expect UEFA will now look at (or create) procedures for such a situation. As has been said FOM are now very careful on what is and isn’t shown of a crash until they know a driver is OK. Others aren’t (RAI I’m looking at you) and will still show very graphic pictures of incidents during events.

Horrifying thing to watch - thoughts with the players and all those broadcasting and most of all Eriksen's friends and family. Hopefully they all are offered counselling after such a traumitic incident.
You do have to wonder if the BBC could've cut away from the pictures sooner or at least had somebody apologise for quite how traumatic they were even if the BBC likely had no control over it.

Was ITV's coverage tonight always due to start at 7.30 tonight or has the Eriksen incident caused it to have a later start (so understandably ITV personnel are in a fit state to broadcast)? Tipping Point: Best Ever Finals has a very 'last minute addition to the schedule' feel to it.

Would the reason the BBC didn't cut back to the studio be because the presenters weren't available or maybe too shocked to say anything on live TV

The ITV coverage was due to start at 7pm. I would I
imagine it was put match to stop them starting for coverage of a match that was cancelled or delayed whilst the other finished.

Tipping Point is a late addition to the schedule

They’ve probably reduced the pre-match time as much of the high energy upbeat discussion and packages they were planning to run would now not feel right, plus there would usually be highlights and analysis of the earlier game

Probably because it’s easier for a commentator to fill (showing pictures that ideally would be not to intrusive) and saying bits every now and then, than it is for a presenter to fill from a distant studio

Euro 2020 (+1) - VampMix - 12-06-2021

Shaun is live in C on NC/World, Reeta is in E on a 10 minute update on BBC One.

Euro 2020 (+1) - Brekkie - 12-06-2021

Yes, the commentator clearly best placed, whether he was at the stadium or commentating off-tube seeing the pictures we were. Perhaps had it been on ITV they may have gone to a break instead, but that would have been deemed insensitive too.

Jonathan Pearce getting a lot of praise on Twitter tonight, and deservedly so. Thought he handled the situation incredibly well.

Yes exactly, as I said above it's much more useful to have someone who's actually there telling us what's going on rather than 3 people struggling to know what to say in a studio in Salford.

I would imagine Uefa would need to give ITV and other broadcasters enough notice to change their schedules until the situation has been deescalated, hence the match starting at a later time of 19.30.

I don’t think it was billed as a news special on the EPG, and Reeta is reporting on other stories, including coronavirus and G7.

Can't quite believe this

Via Google Translate:
Christian Eriksen is awake and his condition remains stable. He remains hospitalized at Rigshospitalet for further examinations.

The match against Finland will be played tonight. This happens after the players have been confirmed that Christian is okay. The match resumes at 20.30.

Euro 2020 (+1) - James Martin - 12-06-2021

Although there's questions over broadcasting it I do see the argument to keep cameras rolling to record the incident, no matter how harrowing, as it is something the investigation can rely on.
