Holby City to end - Brekkie - 30-03-2022 Not sure why people are complaining about a character being killed off in the last ever episode, a character who had left ages ago anyway and clearly only came back for the finale. I wonder whether Casualty will return to 50 minutes - it seems to slot into the schedules a bit easier at 40 minutes and presumably long term that helps keep costs under control too. The character killed off has been in the show continuously since 2005 other than a few months last year and returned before the show was axed. A sad ending which, whilst I don't agree was the right decision, made sense from a storyline point of view to tie all the threads together in the end. I would be very surprised if none of the Holby cast appear in Casualty as either a regular or a guest at some point. With the freedom from Holby's schedule not causing an issue, it might actually make the show slightly more realistic rather than having random characters from "upstairs" appear that haven't been on Holby! Those actors will be moving on to other jobs, not hanging around (in a completely different filming location) as extras. Casualty's budget won't be increasing - probably the opposite if anything, and if they went down the route of regularly bringing in Holby characters to keep a few fans of that happy then Casualty itself would soon find itself under the axe too. Holby City to end - London Lite - 30-03-2022 Bar a few regulars who were on Holby for most of the 23 years, most actors do it either as a first main paid regular gig for a few years, before moving onto other jobs or after their career had peaked then join the production, think Patsy Kensit and Tina Hobley as examples. The others would be jobbing soap actors who move between the continuing dramas, Davood Ghadami being the last actor to move from EastEnders to Holby weeks before they were told it was being axed. Rosie Marcel I believe was the second longest running cast member on Holby after Hugh Quarshie who returned in a cameo role last night. Holby City to end - thebigdog2020 - 30-03-2022 Can't say I watch much Holby but could any of the characters transfer to Casualty now? I know characters have crossed over in the past as well as being regulars on one show then moving to the other but wonder if any plans for the characters to move to Casualty now Holby City to end - Steddenm - 30-03-2022 I think that a couple of the cast will show up as guest regulars in Casualty. They have had crossovers before - and a series called Casualty @ Holby City (I say series, i think it was stripped over a week). I wonder if Jac's death will feature in dialogue in Casualty this weekend? I don't believe my post or any other said any of the Holby casts would be extras if they appeared on Casualty? As the Holby actors are now jobbing actors like any of the other guests, they will go where the work is. Budget wise, Casualty is full of guests characters every single week, so a random actor vs someone previously on Holby isn't going to break the bank! I'm sure the BBC, regardless of the size of the final audience, would be keen for anyone watching Holby but not Casualty to transfer over to boost their audience. It is a bit dramatic to suggest that adding a Holby cast member or two on the show would result in Casualty's axe - I don't think anyone is that much of a turn off that the show would be axed for them joining! Holby City to end - DeMarkay - 30-03-2022 So what will happen to the set now? Holby City to end - Steddenm - 30-03-2022 I think it was said on This Morning a while back that most of the equipment is being donated to the NHS as it was during COVID (they donated all their working assets to the NHS Nightinggale Hospital in London). Non-servicable items will be reused in other programmes I assume. Holby City to end - eladkse - 30-03-2022 In that final shot, the Elstree complex behind the Holby set seems to have been replaced in CG with a significant chunk of Roath Lock (minus Pobol y Cwm). The ED itself can be seen lit up at the back, but the building to the right are also a match for some of the Cardiff production buildings.
Holby City to end - UTVLifer - 30-03-2022 The show's boss posted a clip on Twitter of the final shot, which was slightly different from what aired as it featured some kind of projection/attempted CGI onto the side of the hospital, which presumably was edited/changed https://twitter.com/sean_o_g/status/1508892119079002123?s=21&t=HyQPBU_Te2oTm0mp_ftmJA Holby City to end - soupie - 30-03-2022 Interesting. One might deduce they felt the NHS logo might be deemed a bit too political (though probably would have been alright this time two years ago). There was a thanks to the NHS at the end of the credits anyway. I think it's more likely they just thought it looked a bit naff mapped onto the building - or that it looked like the NHS was saying thank you to Holby City instead of vice versa. Holby City to end - Tim G - 31-03-2022 Plus, Jac's closing speech about the NHS not being "a badge on a cabinet minister's lapel" was really pretty political, and worked far better. The political quote also goes back to the early days of Casualty when they dealt with NHS cuts of the period. |
