If true that’s a great coup for Channel 4 - it’s decades since the Lions last appeared on terrestrial tv. Elsewhere it appears RugbyPass has extended its Super Rugby rights to cover the trans Tasman phase of the tournament. Not sure if it’s the first time they’ve appeared. They used them for their Championship coverage in the last year of the contract. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYtJd6LKCTQ The Sport Thread - Rdd - 10-05-2021 Six Nations rights in ROI (including Women’s and U20) to be shared between RTÉ and VMTV. https://www.irishrugby.ie/2021/05/10/six-nations-enters-talks-with-rte-and-virgin-media/ While that’s not necessarily an indicator that BBC/ITV will retain in the U.K., I would think the chances of that happening have increased significantly since Sky would have wanted both U.K. and Ireland rights. No official confirmation of split of games just that RTE will broadcast games from the Men's 6 Nations for the first time since 2017 and Virgin will broadcast games from Under 20 & Women's 6 Nations that have been shown on RTE for a long time including the last few years after they lost the rights to the Men's Tournament. Hopefully this is a good indication of rights for UK remaining on BBC/ITV and some rare good news for RTE Sport, if they retain UEFA Champions League and add Pro16 then they will be happy. https://www.sixnationsrugby.com/2021/05/10/six-nations-rugby-enters-long-form-discussions-with-virgin-media-television-and-rte-to-share-broadcast-rights-for-all-six-nations-championships-in-multi-year-agreement-for-the-irish-market/ The Sport Thread - thebigdog2020 - 10-05-2021 BBC Sport have announced their live international cricket games for 2021 adding an extra England Women's T20 International this year. 24th June 2021 England v Sri Lanka 15th July 2021 England Women v India Women 18th July 2021 England v Pakistan 1st September 2021 England Women v New Zealand Women The report says 10 Men’s matches & up to 8 Women’s Matches from the Hundred will be broadcast live on the BBC but the only one confirmed at the minute is the very first match 21st July 2021 First Match from The Hundred Oval Invincibles v Manchester Originals (Women’s Match) The Sport Thread - thebigdog2020 - 12-05-2021 TV Rights BBC Sport sign deal to cover Diamond League Athletics on BBC TV, BBC iPlayer and BBC Red Button until 2024. https://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/2021/bbc-announce-new-diamond-league-deal The Sport Thread - RhysJR - 12-05-2021 Some US TV rights stories Spain's La Liga reporedly moving to ESPN (along with Bundesliga, FA Cup etc.) from beIN Sports https://twitter.com/worldsoccertalk/status/1392251316966150144 And Indycar reported to be leaving NBC at the end of this year, with CBS the likely destination https://twitter.com/sbjsbd/status/1392182011238961155 The Sport Thread - Brekkie - 12-05-2021 thebigdog2020 post_id=12143 time=1620831873 user_id=1596 Wrote:TV RightsReturn to live coverage then - may see a return of coverage on BBC3 next year then. Have they now done a deal with UK Athletics then as they've live rights to the UK rounds which used to be sold separately. Mostly on BBC2, but Stockholm got a Sunday afternoon BBC1 slot and Monaco ended up on the red button IIRC as it was a Friday night and BBC2 already had sport in the schedule. World feed commentary for all meets but Gabby Logan and a pundit were in Salford for those on BBC1 or 2 The Sport Thread - AJB39 - 12-05-2021 Brekkie post_id=12196 time=1620843524 user_id=976 Wrote:This deal and the BBC’s other Athletics deals cover most of what the old UK Athletics deal covered with the exception of the UK Athletics Championships. There was talk the BBC & UK Athletics were finding it hard to get a deal for domestic athletics but with the BBC now having Diamond League, Great North Run, London Marathon, World Athletics Championships, Olympics, Commonwealth Games I can't see where else the UK Athletics can go. On another note, the 2nd BBC Sport virtual studio was used tonight for MOTD. https://twitter.com/ianfinchtv/status/1392564003809992706 The Sport Thread - RhysJR - 13-05-2021 Eurosport extends World Superbike deal https://twitter.com/Eurosport/status/1392417077592346624 The Sport Thread - RhysJR - 14-05-2021 Unexpected https://twitter.com/BBCSport/status/1393159727694102531 The Sport Thread - thebigdog2020 - 14-05-2021 Good news for MotoGP fans in the UK on top of this weekend French MotoGP meeting live on ITV4 it looks like the British MotoGP in August will be live on ITV. https://twitter.com/denkmit/status/1393150155927560194 The Sport Thread - News Engineer - 15-05-2021 The FA Cup Final today is significant in UK broadcasting terms for a few reasons. I think all these are right and are true for at least the next four seasons: The last FA Cup game to be shown by BT Sport. The last FA Cup Final to be shown (simulcast) live on a pay TV channel, ending a run that began in 1998. The last FA Cup coverage to be shown by a pay TV broadcaster, ending a run that began back in the days of BSB. (So 1990?) The last FA Cup Final where the BBC will be the only live FTA broadcaster. Next years will be the first since 1988 to be shown live by both the BBC and ITV. |
