If Sky wanted to show the potential title clincher race to more viewers, then they'd more likely put it on Pick, than hand it over to Channel 4 who are only entitled to show the British Grand Prix under the sub-licencing of the rights from FOM.

Would they have been allowed to switch matches at last minute given there are other 2pm kick-offs? I'm guessing probably not given the formulas for number of appearances etc. - and Sky usually prefer with any postponed match to pick them and air the rescheduled fixtures which usually fall towards the close of the season.

I think I've read that Channel 4's agreement is with Sky rather than FOM directly, and the Channel 4 contract is the minimum FTA level that FOM demanded. That would also explain why Channel 4 reference at the end of every qualifying show that the race can be seen live on Sky Sports F1.

Sadly I think you are broadly correct. Lewis Hamilton is not, say, Emma Raducanu - in that he hasn't come from nowhere to capture the public's imagination in a short period; and in a similar way a nine month F1 season is not the same as a fornight long tennis grand slam, where the excitement and the story built up at great pace over a very short period. And Lewis winning his eighth world title would obviously be a massive sporting achievement (well beyond F1 too I imagine) as it has already happened seven times before and it has been behind a paywall all season. I'd imagine it would have been like Liverpool in the 2018 Champions League Final being less of a story than Manchester United doing the same in 1999 - Liverpool's journey was never shown FTA and in the previous 20 years English teams had won it four times compared with none for 15 years pre 1999.

I suspect Omricon may provide a convenient get out for Vaughan and Fox Sports. Considering how Australia have reacted so far I'd be surprised if they didn't make things significantly more difficult in the days ahead for people wanting to get into the country.
I can’t see Fox Sports dropping him for the comments because it might well be more controversial (in Australia at least) to sack him than keep him.

Yesterday was the 10th anniversary of the passing of then Wales men's football manager Gary Speed. Gary was on Football Focus the day before he died and on the same programme yesterday, then presenter Dan Walker presented an extremely moving and difficult to watch tribute. It's is great to see the behind the scenes clips from the day of Gary with the camerman which shows what a nice man he was.

Watching back some of the clips from the day earlier, I came across this of the announcment on Radio 5 Live. What a professional and excellent job by Ian Payne here to stear the conversation despite the evident shock to him and everyone else. Also made me wonder where is Ian Payne these days?

Just catching the snooker for the first time today and I must say, the new on-screen graphic is awful. Why does it stretch edge-to-edge with such a bright colour? It's very distracting.

What a sad day for F1 fans. Sir Frank Williams was a legend in the sport who had employed some of the best drivers when he was in his prime as founder of that team. RIP Sir Frank.
I think the upcoming tributes that will be provided in Saudi Arabia from Sky & Channel 4 will showcase a great history of the man's legacy now that he has gone before us.

Agreed. Everything about the snooker coverage, from the title sequence, replay wipe and OSG has taken a huge step backwards. The replay wipes just end up looking like tartan which would be fine for the Scottish Open but not anything else. The yellow scorebar should be, at most, width of the table. The flags add nothing and the expanse of dark translucency below the yellow is completely pointless.

I wonder if that kind of decision comes from BBC Sport or the production company? I assume IMG would be acting on the BBC’s instruction when implementing such a change. It would be more understandable if there constantly information in that black space like happens on cricket scorebars but it’s only occasionally used and quite frankly they displayed that information when they needed under the old system. So they’re just giving people an inch or so less picture on what seems like a whim.
It seems like the sort of thing that won’t last the tournament or certainly won’t make it to the next one.
Surely it’s also covering up some the advertising on the table, maybe that’s the idea but can’t imagine World Snooker would be happy with it.
