Not to do anyone down but I don’t really see how someone moves from weather to journalist/news reporter. Just seems like ITN want anyone onscreen.

I definitely agree with the other comments about London news being cold - the BBC presenters are so wooden in presentation

Sally was a reporter before she got the weather gig but it's always been part of the role to do reports even when Martin did the weather. It's no different to Laura Tobin or Alex Beresford presenting Tonight,

See I don’t think it’s a problem but it is an odd thing to do. It does depends on the report though, if it’s roughly weather related or a feature/fluff item then I think it’s much more acceptable, a bit like when the GMB/Breakfast weather presenters are on location. I’m in Tyne Tees land and our weather presenter Ross has often done farming/environmental/country life style reports which I think flows nicely. But it would be pretty odd I’d say if Ross turned up live from the latest police tape reporting on a murder investigation or talking about politics for instance.

For how clinical the London bulletins are, tonight's BBC London bulletin had the CiN stuff bolted on at the end and not much else.

While Look North Leeds and South East Today did a lot more. The latter had custom CiN lower thirds and the studio relit with both bulletins having Pudsey on and weather presenters wearing Pudsey ears.

Usually the BBC London bulletins are functional rather than having any personality, but Riz Lateef's sign-off for her last bulletin before Christmas is pure class.

Quite rare for BBC London to hit a note like that - it's a bulletin that tends to miss subtleties and deals with issues in very broad-brush terms - but entirely fitting during a very worrying time in the capital right now.

Riz Lateef's sign off shows a rare bit of warmth that's lacking in both London bulletins. Perhaps it would be seen as a bit self indulgent but I wouldn't mind if either did more positive stories about the Capital, actually promoting all the great things that you can see and do and perhaps leave the studio for big events like the Platinum Jubilee or even something more smaller scale like the Chelsea Flower Show.

Nice to see Nina Hossain presenting the main London bulletin on ITV London this evening. It took Nina to leave the six to realise just how good she is.

New Year's Day and Sunday had shared weather bulletins for London and the South East, Look East had cover from Nottingham.

I saw New Year’s Day and wasn’t sure if it was an oversight or a last minute change, as the actual programme hadn’t been shared with South East. Looks like it was intentional then maybe to cover all possibilities in case it was shared at short notice.

Don't they have a Southern equivalent of the weather hub they have in the North for off-peak bulletins with one forecaster recording forecasts for a few regions?

Presumably though for both those regions even in dedicated forecasts the other region is somewhat included by default anyway.

There are two hubs covering Southern England.

London:
BBC London
South East Today
Look East

Plymouth:
Spotlight + Channel Islands News
South Today
Points West.

An old weather watchers page link for Elizabeth Rizzini at BBC London below. The weekend bulletins are usually divided up in a similar way but weekday lunchtimes are separate now, correct me if I’m wrong.

National or others must cover for holiday like this weekend.

Certainly at Look East the lunchtime bulletins now seem to be in the studio. Presumably this means the late weather is pre-recorded. Chris Bell and Dan Holley at Weatherquest help out providing additional cover for Alex and Julie.

Lunch used to be hubbed pre-Covid, but as mentioned the local weather shift covers lunch and the main live with a pre-recorded late, leaving the hub to provide pre-records during Breakfast in the English regions as they do inserts into BBC local radio stations along with weekends. (Again I think weekends they pre-record the tv forecast and do live inserts into local radio).
