Well that's debatable under the circumstances of the suspension but you're entitled to your opinion.

Burley’s been liking and retweeting an awful lot of things from GBN people, like Neil, Brazier and McCoy. It could all be a decoy or coincidence, but I think it’s telling that Sky apparently didn’t deny the Express’s report that she was leaving. Makes me wonder if she’s working out her suspension/notice period and a deal is all but signed?

News Channels need presenters with strong personalities and decent personal brands not only to attract viewers, but to keep them coming back. If Kay really is done at Sky, I think the channel’s struggle with developing household names over the last decade will hurt it in the long run. I think the BBC, having lost the likes of Sopel, Maitrise, Minchin, Edwards and McCoy from its regular lineup, is in a similar position.

News is available anywhere and everywhere these days. You’re either going to tune in regularly because of the onscreen personas, or because the programme on at that time provides unique content. My fear for GBN is actually that they won’t have the resources to ensure every hour has a distinct take or new content over the previous, but hiring names like McCoy and Burley would go some distance to help them. And Burley and McCoy reuniting on afternoons could be good television...

And honestly, if I were GBN, I’d look to get Morgan for a once-a-week programme, consisting entirely of him interviewing newsmakers and commentators live. The guy doesn’t need another platform and I don’t think much of his views, but from a business perspective it would be mighty helpful.

Brazier and McCoy are both ex Sky colleagues so I don't necessarily read too much into that.

Do they? I feel like the vast majority of people tune into news channels... to watch the news. They might prefer the general tone of BBC News vs Sky News, or prefer the more global reach of Al Jazeera vs the American perspective of CNN, but I doubt that many people tune in just to watch a certain presenter. Of course, there are exceptions to the rule.

News channels are wallpaper tv. You either tune in to watch or listen to the presenter read the news or leave it on in the background with the sound off to read what's on the ticker.

Of course Sky has some appointment to view shows, such as the Press Preview and Sophy Ridge on Sunday, but even those shows still include a rolling news ticker.

If I'm honest, I highly doubt that Kay Burley would be in the running for GB News. I don't think she's the kind of person that they'd be going for, especially considering their viewing base will likely be made up of a lot of people who weren't exactly Kay fans.

If I recall, Kay did have a show called Afternoon Live on Sky News many moons ago, where she was sat on a sofa with guests. I remember watching the Peter Andre crying incident. :o

And yes - she did afternoons from 2005-2019 with multiple names for her timeslot, one of which was 'Afternoon Live' (IIRC it was called Lunchtime Live for the first few years and ran from 12pm-2pm).

Also, maybe she could be joining Murdoch's upcoming "News UK Channel" instead? I recall listening to Talk Radio (which is part of Murdoch's News UK Group) recently and a presenter mentioned that Kay Burley was in the building. There is also, rather bizarrely, a cardboard cut out of her in the Talk Radio office.
