Seeing as the Tagesschau theme's been posted, here's some other themes that stick around in my head:

Something about 'The Mission' used on NBC Nightly News, mainly becuase it just seems the most American choice to have John Williams have a rousing and cosy theme for the bulletin - particularly nice when it's played out at the end with the shots of NYC:

Similarly, haven't a clue about the general tropes of Japanese TV news, but this NHK top of the hour bulletin jingle acts like a cheery alarm clock:

I also really want to find out more about why FNN used what sounds a little like a synth and a theremin for theirs in the 1980s, it's unlike any news theme I've ever heard:

I love that one, the theme is spectacular and grand in the literal sense. KIRO-TV (along with the radio stations when they were co-owned) tried this new idea called "News out of the Box" in 1993, the idea was to not have the anchors tied to the desk and have the radio and TV come together as one. The Open newsroom set, inspired by City News but with their own twist of rotating set pieces , which I love even if it's outlandish and over the top (you can see it in that same video at the 11:41 mark) It didn't click with audiences (most new things don't) and the people who thought up the idea were out by late 1993, the station was later sold from Bonneville (the commercial media arm of the Mormon Church) to Belo. Going back to the intro, that triangle logo meant KIRO-FM-AM-TV all three coming together as the "KIRO News Network" .

I still always here "the world has grown up on Danone" in the last part of the theme. I remember passing by the old YTV Sheffield studios on Furnival Gate as I walked home from lectures back to my 2nd year home in Sharrow.

The 1993-1999 virtual studio was perfect and I'll nominate a not often recommended choon and title sequence for that...

I love the extended sweepingintro of this theme (the longest of the era, I believe) and the subtle but confident last 8 notes of the main theme.

The ITN package of 2004 is sublime and, to me, quite close in appearance (if you squint) to the 93-99 BBC package.

And thatiteration of the famous ITN theme tune and the accompanying music is majestic sonically.

The old Newshour from Aljazeera was also quite magnificent.

The confident RP used in "This is Al Jazeera" followed by the theme tune as it sweeps across the Doha newsfloor....

What a package the 2006-2020 channel had. The new one is OK but I feel it lost something. And this is not me clinging onto the past (or is it - as I approach 50, I am not so sure anymore).

If John Smith (RIP) was the best PM the country never had, then, 9 years on from beeps, this was the best BBC News corporate refresh we never had.

Those flowing flags as it cuts to the 93-99 theatre of news with the curved front-lit desk and background.

And even though time has not been kind to it and, in retrospect, it was the right decision to get rid of it, nothing ever grabbed my attention like the News 24 flags and music...

One of my favorites. I especially love the music that went with it. Sounds like a more powerful version of the RTP jingle they had been using. I also like the RTP antenna pieces being used as scanning lines and landforms on the red globe.

I loved the piano based theme, and the visuals just seemed really classy.

It was just a shame about the awful set from that era. Thankfully the scaffolding came down in time for the 1999 generic set.
