As seen from the newsroom perspective, this is a rather odd statement made by the great Peter Jennings. One wonders if they would have been better to wait for actual confirmation?

Probably would've been, it's all very perculear and put ABC in quite a vulnerable position if it turned out not to be true.

Also, on the notes of newsflashes, this ITV documentary from 2014 is always a good watch I think.

He had a stroke 4 days earlier and went into a coma earlier that day so it wasn't totally unexpected. Presumably another network was already reporting that he had died and ABC had to do something or risk being left behind. The phrasing is awful though, what's wrong with 'we're receiving reports that'?

Funnily enough, I was watching this clip yesterday. Whilst I agree with that the phrasing is odd. I don't blame ABC News for going to air.

As Inspector Sands noted, Nixon's health had rapidly deteriorated over the prior days and he had been moved to ICU, the White House confirmed that the President would be giving a live late-night address (only other time I can recall this happening was when Bin Laden was killed), and several sources were saying that the address would be regarding Nixon's health. Putting all of this together, I can't blame ABC News for going to air with the report unconfirmed when all the evidence pointed towards it being accurate.

Whilst on the topic of late night Presidential addresses, here's another one:

Radio 1 Dance didn’t seem exactly prepared in April, either.

I still love that, the best remix of the national anthem ever.

I don't think that any broadcaster seemed too prepared for what happened that day. Once they'd gotten going, most of them did well, but initially (at least from my POV), it felt like everybody was caught slightly on the back foot.

Here is the BBC newsflash of the Queen mother's death in 2002 and the infamous burgundy tie and the BBC1 ballet Ident which correct me if I am wrong had only been launched the day before.

Jackson’s death was the only one I was truly shocked by. I have always found out the rest via the internet or word of mouth first. I remember even in 2009 people the following day didn’t know he was dead until they logged into the net. How times have changed!

I love the way you can't hear the join between the two tracks.

That's how you can tell a DJ with real skills..

I remember this so well. I was watching ITV. Alastair Stewart was on air shortly after he'd finished NAT.

Would anyone itsrobert or JamesWorldNews remember the NewsFlash that Katie Derham did for ITV News. I can't locate it anywhere.
I've compiled a playlist full of UK newsflashes and special reports, if there are any that aren't here, please feel free to post them and I can add them to the list.
