"My Summer with Des" was a 1998 BBC TV film, a genre that used to be called a "play". A witty and romantic (in many ways) story about a man's relationship with hope and desire, following despair, all encapsulated around England's football performance in the 1996 Euros.

It stars Neil Morrissey, Rachel Weisz and of cource Desmond Lynham.

Shown on BBC1 in 1998, it was released on VHS, but not apparently ever on DVD.

Does anyone know if its available on-line, or if a DVD release is possibly planned. The video format is stated as 16:9, so there's a chance that it was made in Super16,
so perhaps even a possible blu-ray release, or a repeat on BBC4?

I would say contact the BBC and ask, but then you'd probably receive some template generic response from a lowly paid customer service monkey in their outsourced-to-Crapita customer services department, who probably wasn't even born when this film came out.

Reminds me - wish there was also a decent copy of Sex, Lies & Michael Aspel knocking around online

I'm not sure single-camera filmed one-offs were ever usually referred to as "plays", were they? Perhaps "filmed plays", possibly. But I think "plays" almost always referred to multi-cam studio productions. (Although of course I am aware some all-film productions did appear in explicitly play strands such as Play for Today).

Loved this film - reminds me of my mid 20s, a golden time.

And did Rachel Weisz build a brilliant career from this film/play? Great actress.
