I watched the new episode of GamesMaster, nice to see it back on tv but it’s certainly lacking something from the original. Not sold on the presenter, he sounds a bit like dominik diamond, but doesn’t have the quirkiness.
Can’t see it lasting unfortunately.

The quirkiness only came in when Dominik came back after the disastrous 3rd series. Even then, when you watch the series highlights that they chose in the final episode, it came with a level of Loaded, late-90s new lad banter that wouldn't fly today for a general audience programme.

I personally think the presenting team works really well. Rab has a dry sense of humour and a vast depth of gaming knowledge, but is still very warm with the contestants. Frankie Ward is established in E-Sports and Ty gives a some enthusiasm for anyone that might find the archness irritating. Not to mention Sir Trev, who is an absolute natural.
I remember a show, on ITV, back in the 1990s, called "Movies, Games and Videos", which I think HTV commissioned. Although just 30 minutes long, it looked each week at new movies, new videos, and had a look at some new games on the market. There was just voiceover, no actual presenter. Whilst not in the same league as Gamesmaster, it did offer a weekly review. Here on STV, it went out on the Friday teatime slot.
I feel Gamesmaster is very true to the original, in comedy, graphics, theme tune and presenter style. Seeing Trevor McDonald, former News at Ten anchor, telling a youth to "Do One" is TV Gold!! Rab plays the Scottish host perfectly and the challenges are varied and described well. Also, seeing former Gamesmaster contestants coming back again trying to win another golden joystick is a great nod to the past and a good addition. In fact, it is a joy to see it back on TV and a show which is one of Channel 4's bread and butter shows and something they should excel at. I do really hope it returns for a longer series next year, to grow its audience & to give it a chance to thrive.

Like so many C4 shows lately it just feels badly scheduled at 10pm at night. A pre-watershed Sunday night slot might work better. Haven't got round to watching yet but it looks like another 30 minute format stretched to an hour as well - would six half-hour eps have been better?

I've watched the first episode and thought it worked alright at a full hour, there's a good amount of variety in the challenges and other segments. I agree it should be on earlier though. They might have to swap out some of the games they play on it (Call of Duty and Mortal Kombat feature in the first episode) but I imagine it would be popular with kids if it were on pre-watershed.

No, I don't think so - it doesn't feel stretched out, you're not looking at your watch thinking how much longer does this go on? It really is quite refreshing to watch & Trevor McDonald's performance is exemplary & he really gets into the role. Rab's sarcastic wit is perfect. I think a 30 mins show would also work but more promotion of the show and possibly better scheduling and a promotion to Channel 4 from E4. Whatever they do, I hope they stick with the current eerie/dimly lit location of the Water Works they are using, it really suits the show. The later series with Dominik Diamond set in heaven, were a bit silly.
