Wow. I was watching the 1st part of Charlie Bird's interview on The Late Late Show on RTÉ One up until the ad break. It feels sobering watching him talk right now with voice changing for the worst.

MND is a really nasty uncomfortable git of a disease.

Anyone who gets it has my full sympathy & respect for carrying on the way they are at this point in their lives.

Charlie's great strength is his great compass right now while he has this disease. It's great to see him be so confident in carrying on despite his struggles with his life. I wish that he has a good life in these times. And I wish him all the best for him & his family for this Christmas.
I just read that Failte Ireland are going to be new sponsors for RTÉ Weather in a new 3 year deal. It will begin in 2022.

I think the background for the announcement is coming in from Studio 5. The weather graphics seem brand new there while it's on Studio 5's wall

Can’t wait to see it. How long have they been using Avonmore?. feels like forever
I have forgotten how long they have had it. But it certainly feels that Avonmore have been their sponsor for a very long time.
VM News here in Ireland will have it's annual Christmas break later this week. It will have it's last bulletin of the year airing at 8pm on VM1 on the 23rd of December. They might come back on either the 3rd or the 4th of January 2022.

It's a joke that they are doing this soon when Omicron is currently spreading all over the country at the moment. In the world of broadcast news within this country; VM are just handing over their own viewerbase over to RTÉ News or Nuacht TG4 to get the critical analysis on new this variant of Covid.

No other news provider within other countries around Europe should not have the gall to do this stunt to their viewers when Omicron is doing same.

When a news provider like VM does this stuff to their viewers. You have to admit that VM own priorities on how to provide this service are something that is fundamentally wrong when we are faced with dealing with one of the biggest Covid variants of the pandemic to date.
Virgin Media Management couldn't care less about the viewers or the channels. Dropping the News over Christmas and New Year is now a yearly tradition. It's bizarre that they drop the only homemade shows that actually have good numbers and can at least compete with the Soaps.

The Broadcast side of the business isn't run very well (but that's always been the case since about 2006) The only people that seem to watch Virgin Media at this stage are Saorview only houses and those that can only get cable in their Home. Any dwelling I know with Satellite switch over to ITV HD when the Soaps come on.

I presume they'll have a 2-minute update at 5,30 some of the days after Christmas.
What happened to plans to sell all the channels? Nobody interersted?
Karen Creed presenting Six One tonight. Must be her first time?

She's a relief presenter of Six One, maybe it's not her first time

Wait, are RTE getting new weather graphics?
Given to understand that’s not the first time that has happened over the Christmas break.

Carla O'Brien also doing the main evening news. Both of them did really well and it's good to see some new blood!

There has been no Lunchtime News on RTÉ 1 since Christmas Eve. I’m assuming this is because of staff shortages due to Covid 19 but no formal explanation as been given. The lunchtime weather forecast has been broadcast each day as normal.

That's the thing. I'm not sure if they are getting new graphics from tomorrow. Maybe a refresh of them with the new Failte Ireland stings are on the cards.

Today is the last time that the Avonmore weather stings are being played out for the RTÉ Weather forecasts.
