No news scheduled on Saturday (or Sunday). Spotlight London is on at 6 - though what they’ll find to spotlight I’ve no idea!

Presenter on Monday was James Dickman, who was there before the first lockdown.

I agree with everyone else that scheduling it at 6 is madness. I also think an hour is too long - they simply don’t have enough proper news to fill it with. A pacy half hour, repeated later in the evening or even several 15 minute bulletins from 5.30pm to 11pm might be a better alternative, and get them a few more viewers.

I agree with everyone else that scheduling it at 6 is madness. I also think an hour is too long - they simply don’t have enough proper news to fill it with.

There seem to be 4 ‘reporters’ which should be enough, but they don’t go outside and report anything! Most of the packages over the last 3 days have been zoom interviews from Northcliffe House (complete with a cleaner passing by in one of them) or from home. The quality of some of the items, both editorially and technically, has been iffy.

They’d be better off putting together a pacy half hour at 5.30 and repeating it a couple of times later in the evening.

I didn't watch today's bulletin, but I think they have Alicia Edwards, Tanya Francis and James Dickman with Anthony Baxter as head of news. No idea who the fourth reporter is?

But they're putting it out on YouTube rather than their own channel, which says it all.

Also: I see LL has 90 mins of news at 3.30am followed by an hour of interviews - wonder how they pad that out.

I'm surprised Emily Sheffield hasn't been offered a gig on LL like Amol Rajan did when he was the Independent editor.

So the Evening Standard...... instead of using the channel they pumped money into, that has a television "news" operation that clearly needs content and resources.... shuttles programming off onto its website?! Im confused. This is what I mean when I say you have people running local stations that clearly have NO IDEA what they are doing. WOW! Shocking. Every square inch of the Evening Standard news resources should be leveraged to create a top notch television news team for one of World's Capital cities. And for some that are thinking they dont have enough news to fill an entire hour, thats completely false. The problem is they dont have the ability and clearly dont have the knowledge to do actual local newsgathering within and across the capital. This is one example that shows it is clear that they cant leverage what they ALREADY have available. One issue of the Evening Standard could certainly fill loads of time. But because they squandered their intial launch and tried to do too much instead of building up a steady pace. They basically shut down their news operation and now they are trying to claw back credibility to launch a News@6 against well established rivals on ITV and BBC. Less than smart. What a mess!

At a guess, the interview was likely given to the Evening Standard on the basis that it was intended for that title. Also, if are you suggesting that they have a free pool of resources at their disposal in the shape of the Standard's news operation, I'm not sure that's correct. I imagine London Live would still have to pay for most Standard resources.

Yes, London Live and The Standard will have separate accounting cost centres, that's the norm for any companies (media or otherwise) as part of the same ownership group.

Mhhh Not sure about that. Maybe so. And who cares if was intended for the Evening Standard. Why not have an Evening Standard branded interview program on an Evening Standard owned channel. But that just proves they dont know what they are doing. And the results of the inept direction, lack of cooperation, hindered workflow and a cooperative news-sharing and newsgathering agreement is clearly evident on screen and by the lack of viewers and lack of stories and content. What a mess. Many news organizations around the world have separate OWNERS also have news sharing agreements that have nothing to do with accounting and such. If thats the argument being used because Karen from the Accounting Department has a problem with her spreadsheets......all that should have been ironed out from day one.

The LA TIMES and SPECTRUM Broadband work together to produce LA TIMES Today on NEWS1 LA. They also frequently have LA TIMES reporters interviewed and debriefed on the channel. And the NY Times airs its program THE WEEKLY nationally on FX. So sorry I dont buy the "accounting" issue. Especially when both the outlets are owned by the same company. Doesnt make sense to "starve" one source, but continuously pour money into when you have the content readily available and basically free to re-air.... on the air rather than just online. Promote both outlets on both sources .

London Live and the Standard have always had separate newsrooms, to the point that LL didn't resemble anything editorially that the Standard did in the early days with the dumbed down 'news' output. In effect, they competed with each other and if a Standard staffer featured on LL, it'd come out of LL's budget, same for advertising in the Standard.

I told the story once on TVF of how I once had a phone call from a Standard journo to verify something I had written in an article published on my own site about a particular incident.

He asked me how I knew a certain bit of information - I told him that a) I had witnessed the incident myself and b) the same thing had been reported independently by London Live's reporter at the scene (this was some years ago when they still had a 7-day news service)

The Standard reporter's snort when I mentioned London Live said more than words could convey...

What happened to the live stream on London Live's website, it seems it's not possible to watch the channel online anymore?

It went a couple of years ago, presumably as part of cuts.

London Live News can now be viewed on catch-up on their website.

No normal news programme tonight though - instead it's a special programme about businesses launched during the pandemic.

Almost zero local news gathering. One big national political story and a human interest story about a guy in his bedroom and then a arts wrap up. Oh and local papers round to top it off. Geez. Just clicking on the London section of the Evening Standard offers way more stories than whats presented on tv. All they have to do it debrief the ES reporters on air and showcase their written stories. I get more stories on the London 911 twitter account. Geez.

London Live News is 1080p on London Live's catch-up.
