Thanks for that, just listened back to the tributes from Judith, Christa and Peter Levy, lots of great anecdotes.
I particularly enjoyed Judith's story of Harry's first week on Look North and the last item not making it to air so the programme was three minutes light (the standby package was shorter then the item that it replaced).
Harry told the gallery to just put him on, and he proceeded to effortlessly improvise a sport piece that looked like it had been planned all along.

I suspect not, the Hull audience haven't seen Harry on air regularly for over 10 years, probably don't know who Amy is for example. The story is slightly different for the East Yorkshire audience.
In terms of Look North (as opposed to The Super League Show) it would be almost 20 years now (November 2002) - and at that point Harry Gration had only been back at Look North for around 3 years I think? Whereas in the Leeds region Harry Gration had been the 'face' of Look North for around 30 of the past 40 years, it is probably around 15 of the past 40 years in the Hull region

I was also put in mind of when Richard Whiteley died - both of them Yorkshire broadcasting legends.
I do think there’s something unique and very special about long-serving regional TV news presenters. They almost feel like members of the family - much more so than any national broadcasters. It feels like a genuinely sad day in Yorkshire.
Although I wonder if, in the current internet and multi-channel era, today’s regional presenters will ever reach the iconic status of the likes of Harry Gration, Mike Neville, Tony Wilson, Bob Warman, Fred Dinenage, etc..

They mean the East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire edition of Look North, which is produced in Hull.
Like Harry, Amy was on South Today at one point, and has been Look North Leeds' presenter since 2013. No mention of Hull on her BBC profile, but the breakfast slot is pan-regional, she might have been on that?

Roger, Luxmy and Owain paid tribute to Harry on Breakfast this morning, just after 6:30am on the iPlayer. Roger apparently worked with him on South Today in the 90s

Seriously though, the old big names of local news are getting smaller and smaller in number, which is such a shame and an inevitable consequence of so many regions seemingly having had a solid anchor of a similar sort of age. Those of us who were around in the early days of the blue place will probably all associate these people with growing up, with them often being a huge figure in our local communities. I’m pretty forward looking but it does make you stop for a moment and think about how things used to be and how things change.
I only remember Amy doing the cheap produced quiz tv formats before becoming a journalist. I think she did one of the ITV Play shows?

A few months after his death, there was a Memorial Service for Richard at York Minster. I wonder if there will be one for Harry? It would be a nice way to remember him. Far too early I know, to be thinking about it, his family need time to grieve

I had the pleasure of attending with my Grandparents. We were all regional news anoraks! It would be very fitting if they did. Although I was surprised they didn’t do this for Mike Neville. I suggested it to Jeff Brown but he said it would be down to the family.
