LBC stepping up its video output again - now with a video-first programme called 'The Agenda' with Nick Ferrari

I watched The Agenda yesterday and thought that once again LBC has a programme that works for television but as important it works on the radio as well. Yet LBC still doesn't have a tv channel or a 24/7 video stream while GB News and TalkTV still haven't fully grasped combining tv and radio.

The Agenda to me looks like they are prepping a few programmes for some kind of more linear video output.

The one thing that annoys me about LBC's video output is the aspect ratio for down the line guests is slightly squashed

It's a shame Global moved out of television after they closed their two music channels, but I think if they came back with LBC and used more of the Westminster studio for output, they might be onto something here as a complement to the radio station rather than replacing it, which seems to be the TalkTV strategy.

Is LBC constantly streaming? I never find it on the global player yet clips they upload always have graphics and ticker. Why pretend if not actually going live all the time.

I assume they are recording as if live to archive, and only turn on the streaming for event segments like Ask Keir, or Ask Sadiq.

Then someone in the "gallery" will clip the bits that are interesting, and upload to global player and YouTube.

I could see them making the jump to to full live streaming, but there are different expectations for radio, not always cameras for guests who call in or are being interviewed.  Also you would have to worry about makeup and wardrobe - and whether all hosts want to be visible.  I can imagine Steve Allan not being happy about it, he doesn't even take call ins.  And could you imagine Nick Abbott's eye rolls as he takes on the drunk callers whilst playing with his sound board?

I think the future probably lies in hour long visual radio podcast/shows rather than full 3 hour radio segments being broadcast.  Radio is different to TV

I’m sure they also film James O’Brien’s Full Disclosure podcast, but it’s quite hard to find in video form. It’s quite selective what they put out live on video, the confidence vote on Monday was put out live on YouTube and Global player, with Andrew Marr and Iain Dale, which worked quite well on screen.

No, LBC is not constantly streaming. We only clip bits for social media if they’re worth clipping. But, it does stream for Iain Dale, Andrew Marr and Tom Swarbrick.

Does Global have a streaming tv app to view this visual output? If not, seems like a missed opportunity.  Because is seems like GlobalPlayer is just web-based or just a mobile app.

They could take those programmes, circumvent traditional broadcasting, (unlike the route that GBNews and TalkTv took) and just create a streaming channel to be accessed on streaming platforms like AppleTv, Roku, Amazon Fire Etc. Promote the heck out of it on the radio stations. That way they dont have worry about carriage deals with Sky, Virgin and those guys. At least in the interim. The programming already looks tv ready. Their sales department can monitise it with the radio output ads. Instead of visual ads, play the radio adverts with a simple slide (at least until they are able to ramp up to actual adverts in the traditional sense.) They are already putting it out there on GlobalPlayer.com Just make it available as Live stream, with older programmes slotted into the stream and then an on-demand section. SkyNews in the US and Canada is available in various streaming platforms such as Plutotv, XUMO, Tubi Roku LIve Channels etc. And SKyNews has their own app with a live stream and ondemand programming. Global, could include live streams of all their radio stations, combined with all the visual output.  Similar to CBSN and Globaltv Canada....for their local news channels. Just thinking....

Queue the naysayers....

Global Player is two-tier, one is a web based site with low bitrate streams and catch-up. The mobile/tablet app offers the radio stations up to 192kbps AAC+, catch-up and podcasts.

As for tv, Global aren't very good at apps. They have station specific apps which allow you to change stations in the Global portfolio with the exception of LBC News and some Heart and Smooth spin-off stations, but there's no video option on that app either. This is on the Fire TV.
