Deadline reporting he will be leaving the CBS talk-show next summer:

The Brit has extended his contract for the CBS late-night series for one year and will depart ahead of summer 2023.
Corden will have hosted The Late Late Show for eight and a half years by the time he departs – a major achievement.
“It’s been it’s a really hard decision to leave because I’m so immensely proud of the show. I’m thrilled to be extending [for a year],” Corden told Deadline. “I always thought I’d do it for five years and then leave and then I stayed on. I’ve really been thinking about it for a long time, thinking whether there might be one more adventure.”
Corden signed a contract to host The Late Late Show, which had been previously hosted by Ferguson, in 2014 and premiered on March 23 2015.

Eight years is a fairly solid run, only Craig Ferguson had a longer stint and that was only slightly longer.
I wonder who would be the successor because I can't think of anyone and I wonder if they'll want something that's a little compatible with Colbert or go for more in the Corden mould. I think a female late night host would be the best option IMO.
Well nobody predicted James Corden so who knows. A bit less pressure in the 12.37am slot than at 11.35pm, so they can take a risk.
With no sign that Colbert is giving up anytime soon, or the equivalents on the other networks, not too surprised at this news - but suspect he'll be in the frame each time one of the late night slots opens up and taking a break to do other things now, knowing there is a likely fallback in the future where he could return to late nights in the flagship slot, is a sensible move.
Guess it means we'll have to wait another year for any Gavin and Stacey special though.
I suspect Corden probably is creatively bored of doing late night, the other late night hosts just do their show and their show alone whereas Corden has other projects on the go.
Will be interesting to see how they handle the online content once he quits. Usually a channel would be updated to the new host, and perhaps purged of previous content, but there is far too much value in the likes of Carpool Kareoke to wipe the archive.

As with many people the pandemic probably also made him re-evaluate certain things in his life, suspect he is more than financially set up for life already so offering to double his salary wouldn't make too much difference to his decision, you can't put a price on family and being 10 minutes away from them vs. 10 hours away is a huge difference!
Similar situation to Cat Deeley really, although it seems she is off back to LA for a while soon to film the new season of So You Think You Can Dance
They were a rumour a few months back that James was approached to take over from Ellen DeGeneres as she has now finished her daytime show. Apparently the syndication team felt he would be a perfect daytime host, and considering syndication offers a lot more salary than 12.37am on CBS, it could be a move he is going to do.
However, I don't think James will be leaving one nightly talk show for a daily talk show, no matter how much salary is offered to him.
Stephen Colbert and James Corden have had a very decent friendship between them. They crossed over each others shows on many occasions, unlike Letterman with Ferguson, who never ever appeared on Craig's show, but that is Dave of course, he hated being a guest.

In the case of Cat Deeley, SYTYCD films during the summer so her kids can spend time with her. She doesn't do as much TV work anymore even though I'm sure the BBC and ITV would want her for a number of shows.
I hope he does more than film and TV, he did One Man Two Guvnors over a decade ago and that show elevated to stardom as before that he had hit rock bottom after the failure of Lesbian Vampire Killers and Horne and Corden.
It looks like CBS were very keen to keep James on The Late Late Show, but it was his decision to end his tenure next year. I do love American talk shows, they always given nearly a one year notice of when they will leave. Johnny Carson, David Letterman gave one year notices, I don't think that happens here in the UK. If Graham Norton wanted to end his talk show, we probably get a month's notice.
I can't believe the BBC saw fit to put this story under the "World" heading.
Possibly their way of telling him to stay in the US, until they want another Gavin and Stacey special of course.
Despite the viral clips it never really seems to have found an audience here from the look of how Sky schedule it. They did the couple of London weeks of course but despite on paper it being a US show that might find a UK audience it never really has.
I suspect that's down to this country simply not warming to American chat shows, both when they're imported and when we try to attempt the format ourselves (see The Nightly Show). Though as a subsidiary of Comcast, I'm presuming they're getting a worse deal on showing TLLS compared to The Tonight Show that they're also showing.
I always felt Craig Ferguson's tenure stood out enough to have possibly found a bit of a cult following over here if it were given a chance, not least because of his roots in the UK, but his surreal humour and tendancy to shun a lot of the clichés of the format might've proven different enough to find its place. Though I am biased, I thought his show was one of the best...
I saw a story on the CNN website about how "nobody had heard of James Cordon before he got the show"... which I wish was had been true here in the UK, after around 2008 it felt like you couldn't turn the TV on without seeing him (anyone else remember that horrendous sketch show BBC3 gave him and Matthew Horne at the point he was being shoehorned into everything?). I actually hoped him going to the US would mean we'd have seen less of him, which didn't really happen.
